Everyday Practices to Boost Strategic & Creative Thinking

Are you looking for everyday ways to boost strategic and creative thinking on your team?

Here's a pro tip - make it fun.

At our house, that looks like board games over coffee.

My husband used to host Boggle breaks at work for his team.

I've held creative exploration workshops for my teams, asked team members to come up with a strategy for how we'll celebrate department wins for the year, and partnered team members up to design new tools or processes that can improve our work.

Strategy isn't just for executives.

And it shouldn't be positioned as something we do every 3-5 years in an outdated and exhausting "strategic planning" process.

Building our strategic and creative brains helps us every day - and requires regular practice. Making that practice both fun and practical empowers us to:

  • hone our skills,

  • take more initiative,

  • explore different approaches, and

  • try again when something doesn't work the first time.

It also helps our teams develop their own perspectives and come to us with solutions - instead of coming only with problems and deferring to the leader's answers.
