Beyond the Numbers: Cultivating a Culture of Reflection in Your Nonprofit

Do you know where new insights in your organization come from?

Here’s a hint → it’s not your data.

Don't get me wrong. Data is important. Measuring progress is helpful.

But simply collecting data in your KPI tracking spreadsheets, updating your progress-to-goal charts, and running new CRM reports won't tell the whole story.

Insights come from observation and reflection.
They come from intentionally pausing and getting curious.

They come from actually reviewing the data you're collecting, naming the patterns you're observing, and making meaning from them.

If you, as a leader, aren't making time to ask good questions and create space for reflection that elicits new insights, there's a good chance your team isn't either.

Here's the problem with that:

Too often, we continue to charge forward with plans that are no longer relevant in our current context, environment, or timeline.

A plan that was good and reasonable six months ago may no longer make sense.

But we can't figure that out and make the strategic pivots we need to without making time to reflect.

As we close out Q2 (or the fiscal year) it's a great time to start cultivating a culture of reflection in your organization.
