Team-Building Exercises that Truly Strengthen Teams

What's one experience, lesson, or life event that has shaped who you are today and how you show up at work or in your community?

If you work in the social impact sector, you can probably think of several. But in this moment, I invite you to think of just one thing that has helped make you who you are.

Maybe it was an experience from your childhood. A conversation from early in your career. Or a lesson you came by later in life.

But it was something that made a pretty big impact. That shifted your trajectory or approach in some way.

Got it? Okay.

Now - when was the last time you shared this experience, lesson, or event with your colleagues?

When was the last time you let them in on this important information that makes you who you are?

When was the last time you learned something similar about them?

Last week, I had the opportunity to facilitate a team-building session for an organization I adore.

This is one of the exercises we did together - and the conversation it inspired was so valuable to helping their team understand one another.

It also led to some delightful surprises, new perspectives, and strengthened connections.

By sharing more about what makes us ourselves, we gain a better understanding of our collective talents, skills, and lived experiences - all of which help us better understand one another and work together better as a team.

Team building doesn't have to be icky icebreakers or eye-roll-inducing exercises.

Done well, it creates connections that enable us to think, plan, and work better - together.

What's the one experience, lesson, or life event you thought of above? And who will you share it with this week? Join the conversation over on LinkedIn.
