That Time AI Invented a Podcast for Me

Did you know I host a podcast called Smart Nonprofit Mastermind?

News to me, too.

Recently, someone reached out to ask about being a guest on my show. I was confused—until she explained that ChatGPT had recommended me (and my totally nonexistent podcast!) as a place she could pitch herself.

She even sent me screenshots of the prompt and response. We both had a good laugh.

What This Taught Me About AI

AI can be a powerful tool. But more often than not, it’s focused on giving you an answer—something that feels satisfying—rather than ensuring that the answer is accurate or useful.

If you’re a nonprofit executive, you know that “an answer” isn’t enough. You need proactive guidance and insights you can trust.

I’ve spent 20+ years in the “rooms where it happens”—as a strategic advisor, facilitator, department head, ghostwriter, and all-around go-to person for senior executives in social impact.

And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this:

  • AI can give you speed.

  • Trusted advisors can give you depth, clarity, and sometimes even the challenge to rethink your assumptions.

Sharing Real Conversations

While I don’t host my own podcast (sorry, ChatGPT), I’ve loved being a guest on several excellent shows for nonprofit leaders, where I’ve shared practical insights about:

  • Effective nonprofit strategy

  • Change leadership and management

  • Culture and team dynamics

We’ve pulled together a playlist of these episodes so you can listen in one place. You’ll find it here: Podcast Playlist.
