That Time AI Invented a Podcast for Me

Did you know I host a podcast called Smart Nonprofit Mastermind?

News to me, too.

Recently, someone reached out to ask about being a guest on my show. I was confused—until she explained that ChatGPT had recommended me (and my totally nonexistent podcast!) as a place she could pitch herself.

She even sent me screenshots of the prompt and response. We both had a good laugh.

What This Taught Me About AI

AI can be a powerful tool. But more often than not, it’s focused on giving you an answer—something that feels satisfying—rather than ensuring that the answer is accurate or useful.

If you’re a nonprofit executive, you know that “an answer” isn’t enough. You need proactive guidance and insights you can trust.

I’ve spent 20+ years in the “rooms where it happens”—as a strategic advisor, facilitator, department head, ghostwriter, and all-around go-to person for senior executives in social impact.

And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this:

  • AI can give you speed.

  • Trusted advisors can give you depth, clarity, and sometimes even the challenge to rethink your assumptions.
