Finding Community as a Nonprofit Consultant

If you’re new to nonprofit consulting—or entering a new phase in your consulting work—you don’t have to figure it out alone.

As an entrepreneur, community has been essential for me: developing meaningful relationships, building my business, and cultivating joy in this work.

If you’re feeling isolated, unsure, or missing the connection that comes from collaborating with trusted colleagues, know this: there is community out there for you. And it’s worth investing in.

Why Community Matters

Community has given me:

  • Genuine friendships with colleagues who understand this work,

  • Referrals for clients, speaking engagements, and partnerships,

  • A space to both learn from others and share my own experiences,

  • Encouragement to keep going during the harder parts of entrepreneurship.

The return on that investment—in both tangible results and intangible support—has been tremendous.

What to Look For

There are many excellent communities for nonprofit consultants, each offering something a little different. Some focus on peer connection, others on skill-building, and still others on centering voices often left out of the broader consulting conversation.

Whatever your background or stage of consulting, finding the right community can make all the difference.
